Diabetes Connections presents:

Moms' Night Out

January 20-21, 2023

Moms' Night Out Charlotte (2023)
Conference Report

Moms’ Night Out Charlotte (2023) was our very first conference! I live near Charlotte and I’ve run a local Facebook group for parents of children with type 1 for a very long time. We’ve done local meetups for years, so why not try something new?!

Our location was Canopy Hilton Southpark, a fun boutique hotel in the middle of the best shopping in Charlotte. A full vendor fair was a great chance to see and learn about the newest technology and studies. New for this conference: Dexcom’s G7 had just been approved, Libre 3 was making the rounds, and the folks from RX Sugar gave away tons of their newest items.

Our check-ins were manned by two amazing educators. Attendees sign up in advance to meet with a diabetes expert and get a quick, 15 minutes check-in. On hand were Gary Scheiner MS, CDCES is the owner and founder of Integrated Diabetes Services and the author of Think Like a Pancreas as well as Anna Sabino, MSW, CDCES with Finding Smiles Coaching.

Our signature drink was a Cos-Mom-Politin. Mocktails and cocktails were enjoyed as we started Cocktails and Crafts. We stenciled small makeup/supply pouches as our craft.

During dinner I welcomed everyone with a short talk. We had our raffles for Kendra Scott jewelry, a VIVI cap, several books by local authors (including mine) and tried to call it a night. No one wanted to leave! We moved the party out onto the beautiful outdoor space at Canopy with firepits and our photo backdrop.

Saturday morning, we were back at 9am with coffee and breakfast. Our speaker, Anna Sabino, was amazing. She lives with type 1 and asked her mother to help in the presentation. It kicked off a great discussion about how we talk to our children and what they want from us.

After our photos, we talked about whether this would be a one and done or whether we’d take it on the road. We decided to give it a couple of weeks and decide after feedback from the diabetes community. After hearing from moms all over the country, we knew what we wanted to do.

Next stop: Dallas and Providence!

Relax & socialize before you head back home

No, but we urge you to do so! Part of the fun (and learning) at this conference is about being away from your children with diabetes, something we moms rarely get to do. Staying at the hotel is not required, but there will be informal socializing there after dinner and in the morning that you won’t want to miss.

No. The only groups that are allowed to hand out literature and/or demonstrate products are those with an agreement with us. There are lots of lower-cost options. Please let us know if you’re interested.

We will adhere to all local and state laws, rules, and regulations to reduce the risk of spreading COVID. We encourage everyone who is eligible to be fully vaccinated. We strongly encourage everyone to self-test with a rapid antigen test before coming to the conference.

We’d love to take this show on the road! Reach out at info@diabetes-connections.com and let us know where we should go next!
