“…and now a word from our community!”

It’s Diabetes Awareness Month and this year, I want to try something new. For nearly ten years, Diabetes Connections has amplified stories, innovations, and voices from across the diabetes community. Now, I want to turn the mic over to you.

We’re launching Community Commercials: short messages from our listeners for our listeners. Think of it as a twist on the old phrase, “And now, a word from our sponsors…” but this time, it’s “a word from our community.”

What’s a Community Commercial?

These are 30–60 second audio spots created by members of the diabetes community to share:

  • Events you’re organizing: a fundraiser, walk, or local meetup

  • Products you’ve created: maybe you’ve written a book, have a Substack, designed a T1D-friendly gadget, or launched a small business

  • Helpful projects or resources: things you think others in our community should know about

It’s your chance to share what you’re doing and help others get connected!

A Few Ground Rules

  • Community only! These commercials are not for large companies or brands with advertising teams and budgets. This is about elevating individual voices and grassroots efforts.

  • Keep it short and clear. Aim for 30–60 seconds. Introduce yourself, explain what you’re sharing, and tell people how to learn more.

  • All submissions are reviewed. I reserve the right to decline any commercial for any reason. We’re going to this a snake-oil-free zone, as well as make sure smaller groups and voices are heard. (If you have a big budget, call me! Let’s talk about traditional advertising!)

How to Submit

Send your finished audio (MP3 or WAV) to info@diabetes-connections.com
It doesn’t have to be studio-quality; use your phone’s voice memo or whatever works for you. My editor is a magician and we’ll make sure you sound great.

Include a URL we can put into the show notes so people can follow up and find you

Why This Matters

For years, our show has featured innovators, advocates, and everyday people changing what it means to live with diabetes. These community commercials are another way to celebrate that spirit. I want to keep connecting us through creativity, collaboration, and shared experience.

I’m going to start collecting the audio this November (2025) and plan to start running the “ads” once a week, starting in January 2026.

So email me your audio: info@diabetes-connections.com and let me know if you have any questions! I can’t wait to share …a word from our community!
